Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra performs “Brahms Meets Haydn”

Doha: The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will perform a concert entitled “Brahms Meets Haydn” at the Qatar National Convention Center tomorrow.

The concert will have two times, one at 5pm and the second at 7.30pm.

In a statement, QPO said: “This concert promises an evening with Brahms, including Haydn Variations and Symphony No. 2 in D major. Written in 1873, Haydn Variations is a testament to Brahms’ mastery of variation technique. The variations are based on a simple theme believed to have come from Joseph Haydn’s composition at the time, although we now know that this attribution was incorrect. Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 in D major is one of the lightest of his mature works, and its cheerful character may be due to the fact that it was composed during a summer vacation in 1877 when he was living on the shores of an Austrian lake.”

Elias Grandy will conduct this concert. He is one of the leading conductors of his generation with a reputation for exceptional versatility, equally at home in the concert hall and opera house. An exciting season begins for him in 2019/2020, in which he will conduct internationally. Notable debuts in North America and Japan in the first half of the season take him to the Minnesota Opera with Strauss’ Elektra and to the Nikikai Opera in Tokyo with Bizet’s Carmen. In January 2020 he returns to Japan with an exciting program of works by Strauss, Saint-Saëns and Mozart with the renowned Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra.

Interested parties can book their tickets via the QPO website.
