In this ongoing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or sired runners entered for the upcoming weekend on courses at the Japan Racing Association circuit, with an emphasis on pedigree and/or sales ring performance. Here are the horses of interest for this Saturday running at Hanshin Racecourse. Sunday’s action in Nakyama includes the second debut of last year’s champion, two-year-old male Do Deuce (Jpn) (Heart’s Cry {Jpn}) in the G2 Yayoi Sho metric mile and a quarter. Last year’s G1 Asahi Hai Futurity hero is a son of American Dust and Diamonds (Vindication):

LE VERGER (f, 3, Maclean’s Music–Wine Train, by Tiz Wonderful) is the second foal to come out of a daughter of Stakes winner Stage Stop (Valid Expectation), dam of MSW & GSP Stageplay (Curlin), GSW She Digs Me (Henny Hughes) and Mylute (Midnight Lute), the third Oxbow (Awesome Again) in the GI Preakness S. in 2013. Bought as a young yearling in Keeneland in January 2020 for $31,000, Le Verger was bought back at this year’s KEESEP auction with a bid of $50,000 and sold for $100,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale after blasting a quarter in :21 4/5 (see below). 6. HSN, 14,250,000 yen ($123,000)Allowance, 3yo, 1800m
SHAILENE (f, 3, Arrogate–Amen Hallelujah, from Montbrook) finished 1-2 to her late father behind Foolish Hobby on her debut course and distance on Nov. 29, and most recently proved a close best on the same trip at Chukyo on Jan. 9 (see below, SC 10) . The daughter of two-time Group II winner and six-time Class I finisher Amen Hallelujah, the mid-May filly was a $150,000 Keesep grade and matured into a $1 million OBS April Brezer (flat : 10), a prize only surpassed by the master “TDN Climber” Corniche (Quality Street).
