SAPPORO (Kyodo) — Naoyuki Uwasawa threw himself into the eighth inning to claim the win as the bottom-ranked Nippon Ham Fighters recorded their seventh consecutive 1-0 win over the Seibu Lions in the Pacific League on Saturday.

At the Sapporo Dome, Uwasawa (6-5) conceded five hits and three walks over 7-1/3 innings to outplay Kona Takahashi (6-7) and hold off the Lions, who were half a game down on first place.

With the game still scoreless in game five, an excellent throw from right fielder Daiki Asama wiped out a potential Seibu rally. Shuta Tonosaki attempted to move up to third with a fly to the right, but Asama’s one-hop throw ended the threat.

Third baseman Yuki Nomura, who scored the big day, drove in the sixth heat of the game, knocking out Kensuke Kondo from second place with a long double into center.

Elsewhere in the PL, Masahiro Tanaka (5-7) threw seven shutout innings to defeat Japan’s Tokyo Olympic ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto (9-5) in third place in the Rakuten Eagles’ 7-3 win over the Orix Buffaloes to beat.

In the Central League, Hisayoshi Chono scored twice and drove in five runs against his old team as the Hiroshima Carp beat the Yomiuri Giants 11-4. The DeNA BayStars defeated the league-leading Yakult Swallows 3-2 while the Chunichi Dragons edged the Hanshin Tigers 3-1 in 11 innings.
