TOKYO (Kyodo) — Haruhiro Hamaguchi threw 7-2/3 innings with five hits as the DeNA BayStars defeated the Yomiuri Giants 2-0 in the Central League on Saturday.

Hamaguchi (3-3) gave up just two singles before allowing three more in game eight. He exited the Tokyo Dome mound with two ons and two outs, but Gregory Polanco landed against substitute Hiromu Ise for the misfiring Giants.

Neftali Soto’s solo home run in the fourth inning put the visitors ahead by smashing a 2-1 cutter by Matt Andriese (0-1) over the left field wall. Keita Sano doubled in a run in ninth place for DeNA.

Hamaguchi gave up four walks while striking out five in a 119-pitch effort, while Andriese lasted five innings and conceded seven hits, one walk and one hit batsman.

The BayStars had at least one hit in every inning but were wasteful on offense, as indicated by their wasted, base-loaded chances in the first and third, but their two pitchers kept the home team off the board.

Hiroshima Carp defeated Chunichi Dragons 7-0 while CL leaders Yakult Swallows were forced to abandon their game against Hanshin Tigers after reporting 14 positive coronavirus cases within the team earlier in Day 14.

Manager Shingo Takatsu and former Big League player Norichika Aoki were among 12 members who tested positive on Saturday after two of their players were unwell and tested positive on Friday.

The Nippon Ham Fighters defeated the Pacific League leaders SoftBank Hawks 7-2. The Seibu Lions defeated the Rakuten Eagles 6-3 while the Orix Buffaloes defeated the Lotte Marines 3-1.
