Will the Houston Astros get justice?

In 2017, MLB was rocked by a cheating scandal spearheaded by Houston Astros players, and now we may be seeing evidence that the New York Yankees committed a similar crime. After the Houston Astros were severely punished, although some didn’t argue hard enough, other teams also under investigation only received slaps, such as the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.

Now in 2022, after five years of fighting the courts, a letter from baseball‘s commissioner Rob Manfred, sent to Yankees property, will be released and potentially expose a sign-stealing scandal that paralleled the Astros . The letter details the findings of a thorough investigation into the New York Yankees, but the real story that may come out is the differing standards by which MLB punished the franchises involved.

Brendan Kuty was the first to report a tweet that this letter, which could prove a cover-up, came after the 2017 Yankees investigation.

MLB may have protected the New York Yankees

Major League Baseball has small-market teams, they have big-market teams, and then they have their juggernaut, the New York Yankees. The average team in baseball is worth $2.2 billion, the Yankees are worth more than triple the average at $6.75 billion. Rob Manfred might have decided to protect the goose that lays the golden eggs if the New York Yankees were cheating team-wide, and their reputation would have been shot.

If you’re trying to grow the game, which has waned in popularity over the past few decades, it wouldn’t be best for business to expose the world’s most famous team for making fun of the sport. Rob Manfred understands that, but this decision could cost him his job and the league its credibility.

Dan Clark contextualized the situation and what it could mean for Rob Manfred via a tweet.

OPINION: If it turns out that Rob Manfred did indeed cover up the Yankees cheating in 2017 – and I stress the word “if” – he absolutely needs to go. How much controversy can a “leader” survive? Would be a terrible sight for them #Yankees to. Reveal her with THE LETTER..

Oddly enough, the Houston Astros could be the biggest winner in this ordeal as it would become clear that they are not the only ones stealing signs and that the league is not objective in awarding penalties, instead protecting the bottom line.

The coming days as we wait with bated breath for the release of the letter to the New York Yankees will be filled with rumor and speculation, and regardless of the outcome, one team will be furious and the other confirmed.
