Like his son, Pat Sr. was a professional athlete. A pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1992 to 2003, he spent almost ten years of his life in the sport. Pat played for teams like the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Aside from his MLB career, Pat played for the Yokohama Bay Stars in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball for two seasons in 1997 and 1998. As a result, he was inducted into the Sioux Falls Canaries Hall of Fame. After marrying Randi Martin in the late ’90s, the couple shared two sons, Patrick, who was born in 1995, and Jackson in 2000.
