When does the MLB season start?

MLB Opening Day begins Thursday, April 7th. The first game of the MLB season will be a face-off between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, played at Yankee Stadium with the first pitch at 1:05 p.m. EST.

By April 8, all 30 MLB teams will have played their first game of the 2022 MLB season.

When does the MLB season end?

The final game of the 2022 MLB regular season will be played on Sunday, October 2nd. With the playoffs expanding, MLB eliminated the crucial 163rd game that teams usually played on Mondays. The postseason begins October 4, with the full season ending after the World Series Finals.

How many games in the MLB season?

There are 162 games in an MLB season. The sport played its first 100+ game season in 1884 (112) and increased to a 154 game schedule by 1892. In 1969, MLB officially adopted the 162-game schedule. In 2020, teams only played 60 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are 30 MLB teams. The National League is home to the oldest teams, including the Atlanta Braves (formerly the Boston Red Stockings), Chicago Cubs (formerly the Chicago White Stockings), Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and San Francisco Giants.

The New York Yankees were formed in 1901 along with the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics. In 1998, the Tampa Bay Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks were formed and became the most recently expanded MLB teams.

When is the MLB trade deadline?

The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday, August 2 at 6:00 p.m. EST. MLB has been able to be flexible with the MLB trade deadline and choose any date from July 28 to August 3 thanks to the new CBA. Setting the deadline at 6:00 p.m. EST is a change from recent history, with the deadline often being at 4:00 p.m. EST.

In a normal MLB season, spring training typically begins in mid-February. It was originally scheduled for February 16, but the lockout delayed action until a new collective bargaining agreement was reached. With the CBA now ratified, players are reporting for spring training.

Will there be fans at spring training?
