Baseball: Swallows grabs a 6-game slip with a win over Giants

TOKYO (Kyodo) — Central League leaders Yakult Swallows lost six games on Tuesday after holding a 5-3 win over the Yomiuri Giants.

Reiji Kozawa (2-0) threw six shutout innings with five hits, three walks and one hit batsman at Jingu Stadium to keep in shape against Shosei Togo (9-4), who had five runs, seven hits and four walks over 5-5 allowed. 2/3 innings.

Jose Osuna doubled in the opening run in the second inning as the Swallows had their second with a groundout by Ryusei Takeoka.

Takeoka tripled in the fifth before hitting a Yudai Koga double and drove in two more runs with a base-loaded double in the sixth to chase Togo.

A wild pitch in the seventh and a back-to-back solo shot by Sho Nakata and Adam Walker in the eighth handed the Giants a lifeline, but the Swallows came back on a winning note and put them 11.5 games ahead at the top.

The Chunichi Dragons beat runners-up DeNA BayStars 3-2 while the Hanshin Tigers defeated Hiroshima Carp 3-0.

The Lotte Marines beat the Seibu Lions 5-3 in the Pacific League, with the SoftBank Hawks, who were not in action that day, returning to the top as they recorded a slightly better winning percentage over the Lions.

The Orix Buffaloes defeated the Nippon Ham Fighters 7-1.
