In Fukuoka, Japan, a 59-year-old man, aged 87 and 88, is in police custody for the murder of his parents. One of the reasons he killed her was because his anime-watching kept getting interrupted.

Accordingly Yomiuri Shimbun and The Tokyo reporter, Junji Matsumoto served as his parents’ caregiver. “It was annoying that my parents kept interrupting me when I saw anime,” he said (via Yomiuri). “I could not bear it.”

The three – Junji, his father Hirokazu, and his mother Makie – lived togetherwhereby the parents get by on their pension, and need wheelchairs to get around. It is unclear whether her son had a job other than hers Supervisor.

Matsumoto killed his parents after his father asked for help with using the toilet. It is believed that this happened on the night of June 20th. “During a good scene in an anime, my dad asked me repeatedly to take care of him,” said Matsumoto (via Yomiuri). “Because he complained about me, I killed him.” He then did the same to his mother, reports Fukuoka TNC News.

On June 23, Matsumoto fled his family home, initially by bicycle, before boarding trains to travel around Japan to Shizuoka, Yamagata and Akita. The murders and his escape made national headlines in Japan.

After a relative was unable to contact the family, the police arrived at the home on June 28 and discovered two bodies there in an industrial refrigerator sealed with adhesive tape. The authorities later identified them as Matsumoto’s parents. An autopsy did not immediately reveal the cause of death.

Finally, on July 5, the police arrested Matsumoto in a hotel parking lot in Kyoto. It appears that his hotel stays led police to his location. He was arrested for leaving a body and admitted to the murders. He said he strangled his father with a power cord. The authorities are investigating the matter further.
