Shun Yamaguchi will restart his career with Giants in Japan

The Yomiuri Giants announced on Thursday a deal with pitcher Shun Yamaguchi who will return to the Central League club upon termination of his contract with a subsidiary of the San Francisco Giants in the Central League.

Yamaguchi set a 15-4 record and led the CL in strikeouts, wins and profit shares in 2019, his previous season in Japan when he helped the Giants win their first CL pennant in five years.

A native of Oita Prefecture, he couldn’t interfere with the Blue Jays last year when the MLB season was reduced to just 60 games amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In 17 games, he posted a 2-4 record of 8.06 ERA before being removed from the team’s playoff list.

Yamaguchi became a free agent after he was released from Toronto in February. That same month he signed a minor league contract with San Francisco and played for their Triple A partner, the Sacramento River Cats, before deciding to return to Japan.
